
Don’t Let a Tiny Spark Kill Your Whole Batch
If you’re upgrading the lighting or heating in a semiconductor fab, you already know the stakes. One tiny electrical leak? That’s it. Your entire wafer batch is scrap. That’s why we don’t do “random sampling.” We don’t just test a few tubes and hope for the best. Every single tube that leaves our floor goes through 100% withstand voltage (HiPot) and insulation resistance testing. No exceptions. Why we push them to the limit In a high-precision fab, electrostatic discharge and current leakage are basically the villains of the story. We intentionally push each tube to its voltage limit to make sure the dielectric barrier doesn’t just collapse the moment things get stressful. If there’s a microscopic crack in the quartz or a sloppy seal, the HiPot test will find it. It forces a breakdown right then and there. We’d much rather the tube fail on our bench than inside your machine. Keeping the current where it belongs High voltage is a big deal, but it’s not the only thing that can go wrong. We also check insulation resistance. We want to make sure the current stays locked inside the filament circuit. When we see low insulation values, it usually means there’s some contamination on the tube surface or the end-caps are wearing down. We build these to keep those Megaohm (MΩ) readings high, even after they’ve been heated and cooled a thousand times. This keeps stray currents from messing with your sensitive sensors. The part where you come in Here’s the thing: our testing only gets the tube to your door. The rest is up to your installation team. If someone nicks the lead wires or uses cheap connectors during the swap, all that factory testing doesn’t mean a thing. You’ve got to make sure your grounding is rock solid. Even a perfect tube can arc if the housing isn’t grounded right or if the fit is so tight that the quartz has no room to expand when it gets hot. We provide the data. You handle the wiring. That’s the only way to make sure you aren’t tripping breakers or—worst case—dealing with a fire.
